UPDATE: Fortnite update 12.61 downtime has started on PS4, Xbox One, PC, iOS, Android and Nintendo Switch.

The new update weighs in at 1.4GB on PS4 and a sizeable 3.88GB on Xbox One.

The news was announced by Epic Games in Twitter: “Downtime for v12.61 has begun. We’ll provide an update when downtime ends.”

As predicted, it lays the foundation for the end of season event called ‘The Device”, which revolves around Midas and his ‘Masterpan’.

The end of season event will coincide with the opening of the hatches near the hideouts.

There are no major map changes yet, but expect some big alterations when the event starts this weekend.

Based on the leaked in-game files, players will be heading underwater when the storm hits.
